Oura has officially rolled out blood pressure estimation to all Gen 4 ring owners, marking a major milestone for the smart ring category. The feature uses Oura's pulse wave analysis technology to provide continuous blood pressure readings throughout the day.
Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Watch, which requires a traditional cuff for calibration, Oura's approach is fully cuffless. The company says the readings are accurate to within ±5 mmHg for systolic and ±3 mmHg for diastolic — meeting clinical accuracy standards.
How it works:
- The Gen 4's green and red LED sensors track arterial pulse waves
- An on-device ML model estimates systolic and diastolic pressure
- Readings are taken every 15 minutes during the day
- Trends and alerts appear in the Oura app
This is a significant competitive advantage over the Samsung Galaxy Ring, which doesn't offer blood pressure monitoring. The Oura Ring Gen 4 is already our top-rated smart ring, and this update cements its lead.
